Beyond the best move

A chess engine can identify a mistake and calculate a stronger continuation. For the player, the harder question is what to take into the next game.

Postgame connects calculation with explanation. Players import a game from Chess.com or Lichess, or paste a PGN, then work through the decisions that shaped it. The review links each explanation to a position the player can explore on the board.

Calculation and commentary, each with a purpose

Stockfish evaluates positions and calculates variations. Lichess services supply opening information, available cloud evaluations and endgame tablebase data. Those sources establish the chess context for a Claude coaching layer, which receives the moves, positions and engine lines needed to discuss the game.

Keeping those roles distinct shapes the review. Players can compare a played move with an engine continuation, then read an explanation alongside the board. Quick and Deep analysis offer different levels of detail.

A review worth returning to

Longer analyses run in the background, with progress feedback and saved results. The interface accommodates the whole sequence: starting a review, waiting for it, returning to the report and replaying a critical position.

Saved games also provide a basis for longer-term coaching. Recurring themes inform a focused training plan with study links, connecting individual mistakes to a direction for practice.

Built as a complete product

The product was designed and built as a whole, from the interactive board and review interface to game imports and analysis services. Account management, subscriptions and billing support the same experience beyond the analysis screen.

Created independently by Samuel Davies, postgame brings the game, the explanation and the next area of study into one place.
